Bind a Buy-In Profile to members in database
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:02:27 AM »
Hi,

In my league, we use membership cards... and people that paid their membership card pay less than members without membership card.

We can achieve this with the newly added function "Buy-In Profiles". And i thank you for this.

Now, since we use membership cards... they only way i can make sure they paid their membership card, is to put a note on their people profile... but it would be easier if i could BIND them a buy-in profile directly...

So any member that shows his membership card at the buy-in, scans it, the receipt would print the amount of the pre-determined buy-in profile, so i could have 2 buy-in profiles, a member and a non-member.

I would more easily be able to track who paid their membership cards this way...

Any possible chance to get a Buy-In Profile bindable option in the people profile of a member?

Although I can see how beneficial this could be for you, the player database wasn't designed to store this kind of information.  It would represent a very specific customization which I am reluctant to do, since it likely wouldn't have much benefit for other users of the software.

There's also the matter of the fact that profiles are tournament-specific.  The software wouldn't have any way of allowing you to select a default profile for a player in your database without finding and loading up every saved tournament you have (because profiles are saved as part of the tournament).  It's kind of a messy solution at best.

Would having the player's ID field displayed in the buy-in dialog help?

Well, it could, but i am already using the player ID for the member number, which is the string i search with the barcode scanner...

And having a member ID doesn't enable me to know if they paid their membership or not...

I am currently using the Notes field to see if they paid or not... if you could display the Notes one, it could help.

The notes field for me contains the type of invitation i use on the Stats Genie website... so a:

Regular = Paid membership
Spare L1 = Non-paid membership
Spare L5 = Non league member

I also use the Buy-In Profile with the exact same name... so i got a buy-in profile set for Regular, Spare L1 and Spare L5... they all have different amounts...

If i could see the Notes field at the buy-in dialog, i would only have to match the Notes i see displayed with the Buy-In profile and the right receipt would print... that would be good enough...

I also use notes to keep track of members, i put in the date of membership so i there can see if they are valid members.
I would also benefit from such a feature, but didn't suggest it after reading some other posts here in the forum about membership and database issues.

i guess its a hell of a job to start making a database for TD, and maybe makes installation a bit more tricky for the users.
But in the long run i think the benefits with a database would be great.
Being able to keep better track of players, statistics, inserting user images, having multiple leagues and seasons, and so on...
And for those users that have extensive playerdatabase today the handling might improve.
Maybe some time in future..

I know this wouldn't be the best solution, but an idea could be to use Access or Open Office's Db program (free to get if you don't have access) and put the information in and sort that way. I would be willing to make a template ffor you, if you would like and pending some additional info. (Would be access, but open office has Ms office compatibility)

Edit: for tracking memberships, and other pertinent information, that is.

Really far from the best, because i want to manage everything inside the very same program.

I am already tracking membership elsewhere, and the reason i would like to do it at ONE single place it`s because it`s more convenient... after 8 years, easier is better.

Totally agree with you on that point. Figured I could offer an idea in case it hadn't come to you. Cheers!
