tdfolder and datafolder

I am trying to setup TD on my network drive so that I can do my prep work on my desktop, create layouts, setup users, etc before the tourney starts, and run the tourney from my laptop. I have a NAS which works fine and can store my data on.

I have change the datastore location under preferences to my NAS drive. (For me that's \\NAS\Poker\, figured out that mapped drives wont work)
Under the config files settings, I've found that some files are stored in the DATAFOLDER (my NAS), and some are pointing to the TDFOLDER in the program files. (Prizefiles, Default Layouts).

So, my question, why are the prizes and default layouts stored locally and not on the drive? Shouldn't that all stored under the DATAFOLDER? Or am I misunderstanding something?

The Prize Suggestions config file and the Automatic Prizes config file originally weren't intended to be modified, so they don't live with your other data, they live with the application itself.  Later they were added to the other configurable parts of the application, but their home was already determined, and it would be more work (and cause more issues) if they were moved, so there they stayed.

Kind of like the fact that the default data storage folder is "Documents\The Tournament Director 2".  Once version 3 was released, it became apparent that was a poor name, but changing it would cause more problems than it would solve, so it remains "2" to this day.

So if I made changes to the automatic prize distribution, I need to make sure I move that file to the DATAFOLDER. Or is there a copy of that file being used somewhere after you edit it?

I would not recommend making changes to any files in <tdfolder>.  If you wish to make changes to the Prize Suggestions or Automatic Prizes config file, copy the file somewhere else (to your Data Store is a good place), and change the Config File setting to point to your version of the file.  Then make changes to it.
