Title: Personal Tournament Director Software license pop-up
Post by: Borsk on September 17, 2013, 12:56:04 PM
Hi there

I have seen similar questions to why this pop up comes... I can understand that your business needs what is right fully yours but...

We have a problem with these pop-ups.....

The PC is places in this small club of hours, max 20 people play once a week. This location doesn't have any internet.... yeah i know, are we talking 1999 or what??? :)

The problem is you can't get rid of this pop up before we get an internet connection and reopen the software. Is there any way to get rid of this, or at least expand the period from when it comes asking?

Borsk

Send licensing questions to me at support@thetournamentdirector.net.  These forums aren't intended for licensing discussion.  (Besides, no one else can assist with this type of issue.  :))

... only to have your system infected with popups and malware which you never asked for in the first place

What in the world are you talking about?  There are no "pop-ups" or malware in the Tournament Director software.

Please elaborate.

Methinks there may be some confusion as to the definition of "malware".  ???

Many software products out there fund themselves (or further profit) by installing other software during the original product's installation process.  In my opinion, it can be deceptive and dirty, especially when those other products turn out to spy on you, or interfere with your activities (change search results, for example), and/or make themselves difficult to remove.

The Tournament Director software definitely does not do this.  Never has, never will.

wow, well i never ever had any, don't think Corey would do anything like that.

Must be something else, maybe some virus has got into your system and is using any programs to kick it off.

No.  Absolutely not.  The TD software includes NOTHING else.  Ever.  There aren't even any ads on this website.  Whatever's causing it did not come from the TD software.

For what it's worth, I've NEVER had any popup come up on my computer, with the only exception being dialogue boxes. Since those are strictly with the program, I would obviously expect that to be. To the few that are having issues & blaming TTD 3, I would suggest not running any other program and see if the pop ups continue. I doubt they would, but you never know....

To clear things up, what Borsk was originally talking about in the first message in this topic is the licensing validation requirement (the licensing requires the software to periodically be online in order to validate the license).  The vast majority of people these days are simply internet connected most of the time, so this is a non-issue for most people.  But I understand it can be a pain for some.  In those cases, I can extend the length of this period, allowing the software to work offline for longer periods of time.  Just write to me (support@thetournamentdirector.net) and let me know your situation.

As for the followup from jedwards, I can assure you that the TD does not install any other software.  No ad-ware, no tool bars or search assistants, no malware or shady software of any kind.  I promise.  If you find your PC infected with this type of software, it did not come from the TD.  But here are some free applications that might be able to help you get rid of them:

Microsoft Security Essentials: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
