Deep Stack tourny help
« on: July 07, 2011, 04:58:02 PM »
Hey all you great TD forum folks I currently run a bi monthly game that averages about 40 to 50 people, for the big game I would like to see up to 100 people. I would like to set up a end of year deep stack game but I really don't have a good idea how to set one up. we use $1500 in chips with a pregame add on of 500 and re buys till first break right now but I'm not sure how to turn that into a deep stack. I would like the game to go no more then 9 to 10 hrs.

Any help would be great.

Chris

Hi Chris,

With regard to your Deep Stack game, and considering you usually have add-ons and re-buys why not have a Double or Treble chance tournament for your deep stack, for example (I presume you start at 5/10 blinds rather as 25/50, given your starting chips:

Double Chance Freezeout 3,000 Chips (1,500 + 1,500) 20 Minute Levels (100 Players = 300,000 in play = 15,000BB at finish
or
Treble Chance Freezeout 3,000 Chips (1,000 + 1,000 + 1,000) 20 Minute Levels
or
Double Chance Add-on 2,000 Chips + 1 Add-on (1,000) chips (EG £20 Entry, £10 Add-on) 20 Minute Levels (Add-on may be used as a re-buy)
or
Deepstack Freezeout 3,000 Chips, 20 Minute Levels

Players shall start with 3,000 in Tournament Chips, with all levels lasting 20 minutes.  There shall be a 15 minute break after every 2 hours of play.
5/10
10/20
15/30 1hr (End of Treble Chance 1 Period)
20/40
30/60
40/80 2hrs = Break 15mins (End of Double Chance/Treble Chance 2 Period) (End of Double Chance Period (Add-on's performed during break)
60/120 a10
80/160 a15
100/200 a20 3h15m Remove 5's
150/300 a25
200/400 a50
300/600 a75 4h15m - Break 15mins Remove 25's
400/800 a100
600/1200 a100
800/1600 a200 5h30m
1000/2000 a200
1500/3000 a300
2000/4000 a500 6h30m break 15m Remove 100's
3000/6000 a500
4000/8000 a1000
6000/12000 a1000 7h30m
8000/16000 a2000 7h50m
10000/20000 a2000 8h10m
15000/30000 a3000 8h30m

For the actual 'chances' you just use a non-demonination chip(s) for example I have 25pence cash chips and use these for the 'chances' which are exchanged for more chips when required or swapped at the end of the chance periods. For the 9-10 hours max you will likely find that you will be close to this time anyway, due to break overruns and unscheduled breaks later on in the schedule, especially with 100 players, you also have the scope for 20m breaks or a buffet break if required.  I made sure to put an ante in at 1/8th of the big blind, to keep your game moving smoothly, so that you are not overwhelmed by mass eliminations or rocks leaving the table due to only having blinds to pay, that will keep play in the game all the way through. 100 players is a level I have a lot of experience at with either 10,000 or 15,000 initial chips, I just needed to account for your different chip amounts.

With the double or treble chance that should for 99% of players ensure they get to play for a minimum of 2 hours, giving them better value for money, and also keeps them around longer so they will play cash/sng once eliminated.

Hope this helps and fits in with what you are already running.

Regards
Stuart

Game Types in Hold'em are defined in general by:
Freezeout - Once your chips are gone your out (You get frozen out of the tournament)
Re-buy - A player who looses all their chips may re-buy into the tournament
Re-entry - A player can when eliminated re-enter the tournament again (more or less a rebuy)
Add-on - Players may increase their chips by purchasing additional chips
Sit'N'Go - a fixed amount of players register for the tournament and then it commences when registration is full (or STT Single Table Tournament)

Double / Treble / Quadruple / Quintuple etc Chance Tournaments
Players start with a fixed amount of chips with an additional amount of chips which can be taken when required.  If the player does not take them by the end of the period they are automatically issued to them at the end of said notified period. Players cannot play their 'chance' chips, they must be exchanged for tournament chips on request.
