Title: 2.6 beta 5
Post by: Corey Cooper on April 24, 2011, 10:56:15 PM
Beta 5 is ready for prime time.  Once again I'm hoping it's the final beta, and once again here is the standard disclaimer/beta release text:

This is a BETA release of the software.  Beta means I believe I have squashed all of the bugs, but I'd like to get some more testing done before an official release.

As I have stated before, backup your data first.  This can never be stated too often.  The TD can do this for you, just press the "Backup" button on the Database tab and check all options.  You should do this whether you try a beta version or not.

The user manual has still not been updated.  Below is the relevant part of the changes.txt file.

Thank you again to everyone who will participate in this test release.  Please post or email any feedback you have.

Download the 2.6 beta 5 here: [link removed]

** UPDATE: this beta test has officially ended.  See my update here: http://www.thetournamentdirector.net/forums/index.php?topic=2738.msg14516#msg14516

- (2.5.11): Seating Chart screen, in list format, doesn't update when all players are unseated
- (2.6.a1): "inTheMoney" conditions variable has been changed to "inTheMoneyRank"; "inTheMoney" is now a player variable indicating whether or not the player is considered "in the money"

- (2.6.a1): Malformed layout tokens cause error
- (2.5.11): If the countdown ends (and tournament starts) while the Rounds tab is displayed, the current level indicator doesn't appear
- (2.5.11): Closing the Settings dialog using a hotkey (ESC) does not save the last change to the rounds schedule if in spreadsheet mode
- (2.6.a1): Right-clicking on a disabled input causes error
- (2.6.b4): <roundbeforenextbreak> token returns "-1" when no more breaks in schedule
- (2.5.11): Settings window tabs are not updated when "Reset Everything" option selected on Preferences tab

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Known Issues:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- When using Internet Explorer 9, when background images are set IE9 renders the screen without the image for a brief moment before rendering the image.  This can produce a brief flash effect.  The Tournament Director has code to work around this issue as much as it can, but ultimately this is an IE9 issue.

Also just downloaded. Planning on doing an extensive database mock tourney to help test it out some - going to try it with all of my players

EDIT: One quick thing I noticed after installing - Seems like b5 took out the "backup" folder from the data folder. Also, would there be a way to suppress the warning with the personal license after viewing it once?  Like seeing the "News" box - a way to keep up with the forum. Question on that, however, is what would show should there be no internet connection? Just did a backup for the first time in quite a long time, and noticed that the dialogue box stays open to show details. If new, nice! If not, then perhaps I should back up more often... lol.

On a (slightly) more serious note, I have all but two status messages disabled (clock paused, unseated players). However, I still get the one at the beginning stating to buy in players. Hope to have a big tourney update tomorrow, but will be tough, as I'm in school most of the day.

b5 Looks Good! Ran it through a few tests and some new features are great. The option to choose what TD prints receipts for will be a big help on saving thermal paper, and the option to send a keystroke to the print dialog will also save me time (often by me not paying attention and realizing the dialog box opened).
Hoping to see a Buy-In Player option on the New Player Dialog, this too will save time and also hoping to have a token added for a name format I can use in InLine Rankings (some of my players want a nickname showing up instead of their real name).
I love the ability to export a certain number of players instead of everybody in the filter !!!
I'll give you more feedback in the next few days.
Great Job!

Same here.

Good work Corey, A welcome release.

I have spotted my first problem, status messages are not disabling when unchecked, as I only use the Paused status message with all others disabled

I have tried deleting the set, creating a new set etc to to avail.  It only works when I check the "Disable all status messages"

EDIT: Magic Fubu talks about the licence reminder when starting up which seems reasonable for personal users but is a reminder to upgrade if required to commercial necessary when you already hold a commercial licence!?

Regards
Stuart

Thanks for all of the very quick feedback everyone!

One quick thing I noticed after installing - Seems like b5 took out the "backup" folder from the data folder.

There is no "backup" folder.  You must have created that one.

Also, would there be a way to suppress the warning with the personal license after viewing it once?

Take it from someone who starts up the software more often than anyone else on the planet, this dialog is annoying.  But this is an unfortunate consequence of license abuse.  This still being a beta version, I'm still shaking out the details of how I want to handle this, but as of right now this will be staying.  I am open to suggestions.

Like seeing the "News" box - a way to keep up with the forum. Question on that, however, is what would show should there be no internet connection?

If there is no internet connection, the News section will retry for a while, and eventually tell you it could not retrieve the news.  It doesn't cache anything currently.  And that's actually a good idea (forums).  At this point I really don't know where I'll be taking the News section - currently it just shows the News on the website which is pretty static.  I like the idea of showing some recent forums posts.  Unfortunately the space is pretty small so there's not a whole lot that can be shown.

Just did a backup for the first time in quite a long time, and noticed that the dialogue box stays open to show details. If new, nice! If not, then perhaps I should back up more often... lol.

Yes, backup more often.  :)

On a (slightly) more serious note, I have all but two status messages disabled (clock paused, unseated players). However, I still get the one at the beginning stating to buy in players.

Sounds like you're not the only one to see this.  I probably messed something up when I added the preference to suppress status messages when event messages are displayed and didn't test it enough.  I'll look into it.

I thought I had worked all of the weirdness out, but obviously not.  If you see this again and have any idea what you might have done to make it happen, please let me know.

EDIT: Magic Fubu talks about the licence reminder when starting up which seems reasonable for personal users but is a reminder to upgrade if required to commercial necessary when you already hold a commercial licence!?

It's not a reminder to upgrade, just a reminder of what type of license is installed and the restrictions of said license.  I have a lot of cases, in commercial environments, where one person or department will procure the license and another will use it.  The conditions of the license are typically not communicated to the person actually using the license.  Or an employee leaves a job or transfers to another location and/or position, and another person takes their place, and this type of information is not passed on.  I've even had people *sell* their own personal license to a business as a commercial license.  In all of these instances it is up to the end user (business/employee) to be aware of the conditions under which they have licensed the software, but it doesn't hurt to remind them.  This also makes the legal standing far more firm.

Again, I don't like it anymore than you guys, but it's got to be done.  And again, I'm open to suggestions.

I hope this feature works for everyone.  I'd almost place it into the "hack" category, so I'm curious to hear your results.  FYI, I'll eventually add this to the user manual, but if you need to do any special keystrokes, this is documented on Microsoft's website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8c6yea83.aspx

Hoping to see a Buy-In Player option on the New Player Dialog, this too will save time ...

I'll add it to the list.

... and also hoping to have a token added for a name format I can use in InLine Rankings (some of my players want a nickname showing up instead of their real name).

Can you be more specific (sorry if you've asked this before)?  Are you wanting to display the First/Last name for some players and Nickname for others?  Are you wanting to display names differently just for this token than elsewhere in the program?

Just started the test with all 216 players that I have in my database. Just noticed that there's a minimize and close button in the top corner - makes it really nice when trying to test something and reply on here (as i just did)  ;D

EDIT - Is the mshta.exe the image name for TD? I ask this due to the fact that as I near the end, TD lags not with the clock, but with starting sounds for bust outs. I don't see one directly associated with TD, and mshta.exe is the only one that I have that's over 100k (at 180k). Am sure there's not much that can be done to change it, nor would it become an issue for me personally, but I know it may become one for others. What is odd, though, is that at the moment I've got the default sounds for the one minute warning, as well as the level ending, and those played right on time as they should have... Just not the bust out sound - about a two to three second delay towards the end... Smooth at first in the beginning.

first tournament glitch free.  One problem I did notice though, when carrying out direct buy-ins during registration TD would not allow repeat keystrokes, the <add player> button was highlighted (Players Tab) but pressing enter to enter the next player did nothing, which then meant that intervention by using the mouse was required in order to click on Add Player, which does slow down reg, as usually myself and the TD are able to enter the players using the <enter> key and unique player names/numbers with (using auto-perform action) meaning that we can keystroke (almost) all the entries without having to use the mouse to point and click.

The <Add Tables> feature for me seems a bit counter-intuitive, serving little purpose I preferred the previous <New Tables> of 2.4b4 any TD or card room manager I would surmise is aware of how many tables they have/need and how many heads they want at those tables during the seating draw.  Also I am not a fan of the new window which now displays which says <# New Tables Created>, tbh more of an annoyance as it increases the keystrokes or mouse clicks for that action, for example if i have 40 entries at 11 max tables i'm gonna click (previously) New Tables, 9 handed so that I know i'm getting 5 tables to have sufficient late reg space without having to high card players.  It just seems a bit of a 'nanny' option now.

With regard to the licence reminder I have already given my suggestions to you via e-mail, I am not a fan of placing those suggestions on a public forum where user's with abused personal licences are likely to see.  I understand what you are saying about the licence, perhaps the reminder only popping up once every so often, rather as every time for commercial would be more apt?

I like the new New Player option on the Add Player dialogue, could we not have an <Add & Buy-In> button/option along with the standard <ok> button like Jody suggested?

Other than those minor frustrations looking good, still looking for that seating chart in rotating pages rather as a scrolling single page though ;-)

Cheers
Stu

That has actually always been there.  But for beta 5 I changed them so they have a Vista/7 look to them, added a partial title bar to place them on and make them easier to see, and made it so the mouse doesn't have to move quite so far into the corner before they appear.

Yes, mshta.exe is the Microsoft HTML Application exe, which hosts the TD.  Delays like you're hearing might be more likely to be caused by the audio file themselves, but really I couldn't say why this is happening.  Are they large audio files?  Are you using a different bust-out sound each time?  You might try using the same sound for every bust-out, and see if it tends to lag after the on subsequent bust-outs.

Awesome.  I'm really glad to hear it.

This is a nice catch.  You know why this happens?  Because you have the preference "Allow hotkeys on all Settings tabs that do not have inputs" enabled.  Thus, the keys you press are being intepreted as hotkeys, and are not passed on to the tab.  I'll look into forwarding keystrokes that are not defined as hotkeys, but I'm not sure if that's going to be a good idea or not.  Will have to try it and see how it works.

Interesting perspective.  The "Add Tables" feature, before, was only available when you had no tables defined.  So you could only use it to create your initial tables.  If you used it to create your initial tables, then added new players and needed to create more tables, you had to add the tables yourself, you could not use this feature.  Additionally, it only asked for the total number of players and the number of seats at each table.  It did the math and created the number of tables needed to seat all of your players.  What I changed in this version is (a) I no longer restricted it to only working when you have no tables defined; thus you can now use it to create your initial tables AND add as many new tables as necessary to seat all of your players; and (b) it now shows you the math and allows you to modify its calculations; that is, you still enter the same values (number of players, number of seats at each table), but it now shows you how many tables are needed before it actually creates them, and allows you to change that number if you want.

So, I made it less restrictive and more informative, but it appears to you to be less useful.  It's always very interesting to see how features are perceived outside of my very code-centric view.

This is definitely an option I am considering.

I assume you mean "New and Buy-in" button, and yes, it's on the list.

Yes, I have a bunch of audio files that I use to bust out players. I'll test it out using only one (and probably on mute) and see what happens. Realistically, I won't have an issue, as the tournaments that I host tend to be no more than 40 players. I should have an update hopefully within an hour or so. No classes today, so it should make it easier. The minimize/close buttons at the corner... It must have needed to be right on the corner on full screen mode, since it never popped up for me before b5 came up. Anyhow, on to more testing :)

Another nice feature I just noticed (probably been there all along...) The mock tourney I had I reset to restart. Had only one table with one player on it (since the tourney was over). Clicked suggest movement, and voila! players seated at mulitple tables - without defining tables. :)  If it's been there all along, then yes, I'm slow  :-X  But that would be due to my always having my tables set up in advance :)

Onward with testing!

EDIT - Went quicker than I had anticipated. Although It didn't show up unitll the final table, the few second lag still showed up, so should I ever find myself in that situation, I probably will end up not using bust out sounds. MSHTA.exe still got up to 183k on my system. I may try one last mock tourney where I end processes I know are not vital to my system, and see if that were to improve it...

Hi again Corey,

"Allow hotkeys on all Settings tabs that do not have inputs" was enabled, however I was able to keystroke on b4, now its disabled but feel like I've went backwards as now I can't bust players by pressing X on other tabs, I prefered the b4 way.

""I assume you mean "New and Buy-in" button, and yes, it's on the list.""
No, for example;
I click Add Player (on players tab)
search for player yields nothing so I then click New Player on Add Player Dialogue, which opens the New Player Dialogue, at the bottom if when entering that player we could then click "Add & Buy In" which then immediately performs a quick buy-in of the player. (Hope that makes sense!)

I can see a case where other users are only going to want to add them to the tournament without buying them in, but in my case if I'm adding a new player they are buying in too at the same time during registration.

Best
Stu

That's because the hotkeys code in b4 was buggy.  It just so happens the bug actually suited what you wanted to do.  Like I said, I'm going to look into making keypresses that aren't assigned to hotkeys pass through to the current tab.  This is probably the right behavior.

search for player yields nothing so I then click New Player on Add Player Dialogue, which opens the New Player Dialogue, at the bottom if when entering that player we could then click "Add & Buy In" which then immediately performs a quick buy-in of the player. (Hope that makes sense!)

I can see a case where other users are only going to want to add them to the tournament without buying them in, but in my case if I'm adding a new player they are buying in too at the same time during registration.

That's actually what I meant.  Adding a "Buy-in" section to the "New Player" dialog, so you can create a new player and buy that player into the tournament at the same time.

Thanks for the new beta.

Some things I discovered.
* Players/Add Players to tournament, is it possible to remove the new columns (Name, First, Last). I only want Nickname
* If I Hide Scrollbars, I cannot use the mouse wheel to scroll, is it suppose to be like that?
* Stats, if I copy everything (C:\Users\My Documents\TD2 and C:\Program Files\TD2) from computer A to B, I cannot run stats on computer B (has never been any problems before).

Error message:

If I change to the correct paths in profiles for Computer B, it doesn't save the info and I still get the error message

I have an item on the to-do list to expand the column listing for most of these types of dialogs, and allow selection of the columns to display.  It's actually a sizable piece of work, because I want to make the dialogs consistent, so it involves changes to about a dozen dialogs (how they display, how they sort, how they are searched) and new preferences.  So I'm not sure when I'll get to it.

* If I Hide Scrollbars, I cannot use the mouse wheel to scroll, is it suppose to be like that?

I wouldn't say it is "supposed to be like that", it just is like that.  Removing the scrollbars removes the ability to manually scroll, unfortunately.

* Stats, if I copy everything (C:\Users\My Documents\TD2 and C:\Program Files\TD2) from computer A to B, I cannot run stats on computer B (has never been any problems before).

Not sure what's going on here.  If you copy the folders from one PC to another, and into the same locations, you should not have to change any paths.  And are you sure about that last part ("it doesn't save the info")?  I mean, I haven't seen any issues with modifying Stats Profiles.

One thing you can do is edit the profile, then edit the Sources.  In the Sources folder listing, right-click a folder you believe has tournament files in it and select "Explorer folder".  That should open Windows Explorer directly to that folder and let you confirm there are tournament files in it.

Yes, I have tried all that. I add the correct source path (computer B), Explore the folder and can see the files (no problems), click ok and return to Profiles menu but in Profile Properties it still says source to computer A (I even removed computer A as source)!!!!!!!

I check the Auto-Print box aform the preferences tab and the "Allow Players to be seated who have not bought in" from the tables tab. I havent tried with any other preferences but TD does not remember my preferences for these 2

On my last post...
I run several different types of tournaments each week and have created a template tdt for each (different rounds, layouts and tables). When I load the required tournament for that specific day and save as a different name (to not modify my template) it appears to load some preferences that were created with that template. So if I save a tournament with Allow Players who have not bought in to be seated turned on it will re-open with it turned on. If I then load a tournament that has this option disabled when saved, it will be disabled.

We resolved this in email, but to let everyone know this is definitely a bug.  It only affects preferences that were upgraded from a previous beta of 2.6, and only Stats Profiles that had the "Use Default Sources" checkbox checked.  If this affects anyone, send me an email and I can resolve it for you.  Thanks GT!

Edit: To follow up on this, in beta 5 I changed the Stats Profiles, removing the "Default Source".  This was a common place to configure where the profiles looked for your tournament files, which was supposed to save time if you had multiple profiles that all looked in the same place to find tournaments.  In the end I found it was more confusing than time saving, so I removed it.  But when something like that is removed, I usually have to add code to "fix" the preferences for those who used that version of the software.  The "fix" should only happen once, but the software is "fixing" the preferences every time the software is started.  That's the bug.

Which Auto-Print preference (there are two)?  I'm not seeing this problem.

For the "Settings" on the Tables tab ("Allow seating of players who have not bought-in", "Automatically suggest player movements", etc): This is slightly new behavior in 2.6 beta 5, and is now how it should have been all along.  Initially (long ago) I added these as preferences, because I figured people who would allow players to be seated before buying them into the tournament would probably do this for all of their tournaments.  And people who wanted the software to suggest player movements would always want the software to do this.

However, there was an issue specifically with the "Allow seating of players who have not bought-in" preference.  If a tournament was configured (and perhaps partially run) and saved while this preference was enabled, then the preference was disabled, when that tournament was loaded the software could get into trouble if the saved tournament had unpaid players seated at tables.  The preference to allow seating of unpaid players was disabled, yet the tournament had seated players who were not bought-in.  This led to several bad things happening and basically just some weird behavior.

Ultimately I realized that these are really tournament settings, not preferences, but people will still have a preference as to how they are usually configured.  Thus, in beta 5, I changed these to be tournament settings, but I also added preferences that control their default values.  So, if the preference "Allow seating of players who have not bought-in is checked by default (Tables tab Settings)" is enabled, then whenever you create a new tournament (from scratch), or create a new Tables configuration (from scratch), the setting "Allow seating of players who have not bought-in" will be enabled.  However, when you load a tournament, or load a Tables template, this setting will be the same as it was when the tournament or template was saved.

Since this wasn't a tournament setting before now, the software has to do some sleuthing to figure out how the settings should be configured every time you load a tournament saved from a previous version, but it isn't very hard and I think it gets it right.

I hope that's clear.

My mind was wandering when I wrote Auto-Print. I thought the fact the 'allow players to be seated' was being unchecked was a programming error. I just went through all my tournament templates and turned this preference on.

My boss has just made a request to have the tournament summary created (or given to him) in CSV. Pretty much the same info as already present in the HTML export. Is this possible in the near future?
Title: Re: 2.6 beta 5
Post by: Corey Cooper on May 03, 2011, 02:30:52 PM
Which information?  The export from the Summary tab?  And if so, which information?  There are 7 sections, and I'm assuming you would mean the top 6, and not the "Action Summary".  That would ultimately mean a single row of information with a bunch of columns.  (Adding the Action Summary would mean two different sets of columns, which would not make sense for a CSV file, but I guess could be done.)  Or do you have a specific format in mind?

You can use the attached template to export to CSV.  Set it as your Default Summary Export on the Config Files dialog (Preferences tab).  When you export, just give the file a ".csv" file extension and voila.

Just used the stats filter where nobody passed the filter... Really like the revamped look when there are no players to ensure that the filter and tournaments are set up properly to catch the tournaments and players that are needed! (turned out that there were no players to show, which was what I was hoping for)

Title: Re: 2.6 beta 5

It's with the stats tab. I use it to show people where they are in points after the weekly tournament. I have it set up so that people who haven't played at least once in the previous season are placed in a league titled "at risk", since I delete those who have not played in two consecutive seasons. After each week, I run the stats to see if any of them have played, and if so, I remove the tag of "at risk". Yesterday was the first time I ran a tournament with b5, due to a last minute scheduling change, and before I left to host, I ran that filter for the at risk players, and it came back with nobody having passed the filter with the tournaments for the season.

I came across something that really caused me a headache trying to figure out and was hoping you could change this. I allowed a player to play for free in a tournament and when I bought them in, I changed their buy0in from $50 to $0. This affected the points she earned because the bc in my formula pointed to how much she paid and no tthe buy-in cost of the tournament. Can the bc in the formula point to the Buy-In on the game tab and not the amount the player paid?
Title: Re: 2.6 beta 5
Post by: Corey Cooper on May 11, 2011, 06:52:37 PM
It is debatable as to which is more correct, but changing it could break existing formulas for those counting on it to represent the buy-in cost for that player (which could be different than the set buy-in cost for the tournament).  I'd have to add another variable to cover that.  The work around until that happens is to hard-code the buy-in cost into your formula.
Title: Re: 2.6 beta 5
Post by: jodybingo on May 11, 2011, 08:53:53 PM
I've changed the formula and put in the number in place of bc when needed. It just caught me off guard and took me a while to figure out what was actually going on and I wasnt sure if that was intended.

Been there, are workaround was to make a prize up, say 18 then edited that prize like, monetary...freeroll, then put the points for buy-in, in the points box, seem to work for us.

Your screenshot is of 2.5.12, not 2.6 beta 5.

That aside, the database format has changed in 2.6, so when you upgrade to 2.6, once you start 2.6 and make any change to anything in your database, it will be upgraded to the new format.  If you decide then to downgrade back to 2.5.12, the software won't understand the new database format, and you'll see this error.  If you really are trying to downgrade back to 2.5.12, you should restore the backup you made when you upgraded to 2.6.  You did create a backup, right?  :)

There is a bug in the Collapse Tables dialog.  You cannot move the tables in the "Collapse these tables last" list up, or you'll see this error.  You can move them down, and you can move tables up and down in the "Collapse these tables first" dialog.

You can work around this by moving other tables down in the "Collapse these tables last" list.

No and no.  I realize this is an annoyance but it has been made necessary unfortunately.  I have changed the behavior so that it will open upon start up only the first time on any given day that you use the software, to reduce the annoyance.  There's no way to disable it ... that would defeat its purpose entirely.

Quote

File formats (including the database) are always forwards-compatible, but not backwards-compatible (maybe I have those terms reversed - I don't know).  That means that version 2.5.12, for example, should be able to load/read files created with any previous version.  But version 2.5.12 will not necessarily be able to load/read files created with future versions.

Yep... got them mixed up.... lol.... since the betas work with the older, it's backwards compatable, and if the older versions were to work with the betas, then it would be forward compatable.

Hi, is there a way that when the Print dialogue box appears that it prints automatically ? When I choose the autoprint with the keystrokes to send as default the Print dialogue box appears and I have to press the print button to have the thermal printer to print. The printer has been set as default printer in the Windows printers and faxes. :)

Thx

Title: Beta testing has ended
Post by: Corey Cooper on October 24, 2011, 06:59:16 PM
The beta testing period has officially ended.  Version 2.6 beta 5 has been removed from the site.

Usually the release of the next version marks the end of the beta testing period, but this time things are a little bit different, so here is the official announcement:

Version 2.6 is officially retired.  The next release will now be version 3.0.  I hope to release it in the next few days.

For the first time in the history of the Tournament Director software, an upgrade will not necessarily be free.  Dates are not set in stone at this point, but at the time of this writing, if you purchased your license after January 1st, 2010, then you should qualify for at least a discount for the upgrade.

Beta testers: I of course did not forget about you.  This has been a very long and involved release of the Tournament Director software, and your contributions have not gone unnoticed.  If you were a beta tester for 2.6, you will receive a free upgrade.  There are a few stipulations, of course.  You had to test version 2.6 beta 5, between its release date and today (Oct 24, 2011).  Since the software does a version check at startup, I should have a record of it in my logs.

I would really like to hear what everyone thinks.  Your opinions are important.  I'm putting on my flame suit now, just in case.  :)

One last thing to you beta testers: I did something new in beta 5 and put in an expiration date.  Yes, really.  That means the software will cease to function on the expiration date, which is November 1, 2011.  I really thought I would be able to get this thing done a lot sooner than this, but life has a way of doing its own thing.  I've really cut it close.  So be aware of this, and be sure to request your upgraded license as soon as possible after I release version 3.0.  I don't want anyone to get stuck out because of my possibly boneheaded decision to put that into the beta version.

Great Job Corey.
Of course, the few of us who post here regularly will continue to contribute to the growth of future versions.
As for new licenses, how do we obtain these ? (I actually have 2 registered to me)

When 3.0 is released, there will be an upgrade request form on the main site.

I know as a tester, I would definitely appreciate it being free, given everything that we (as testers in whole) have found, assisted with, and suggested for the next beta/version of TD. If you do offer it free for the beta testers, I would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to you, Corey!

So, let's say I have a game on Nov. 4 (which I do), the beta expires and V3 is not ready...what then? And--by the way--your hard work is appreciated, especially by those of us in the beta community!

If you do offer it free for the beta tester (...)

It will definitely be.  Help from beta testers has been invaluable.

So, let's say I have a game on Nov. 4 (which I do), the beta expires and V3 is not ready...what then?

Won't happen.  If for some reason I am unable to get it released by then, I will release a beta 6 as an interim solution with the expiration date extended or removed.  (Given the short time frame, I may have to do this anyway.)  I won't leave beta testers "high and dry".

Looking forward to the new 3.0.
Will there be a list before hand of what has been changed, improved? Will it be fully  backwards compatible?

Yes, as always there will be a list of all of the changes, and it will be the same level of backwards compatible as all previous versions (that is, version 3.0 will be able to load any saved tournament or template from any previous version).

Here's the list of changes, relative to version 2.6.b5.  This will in the end be combined with all of the changes starting from 2.6 alpha 1, and pruned since many bugs fixed between betas won't matter in the larger context.  And there are a ton of things under the hood that were tweaked and not worthy (I thought at the time) of noting, so this list is unfortunately somewhat partial.

Version 3.0
======================================================================
New Features:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Auto-save is now a preference, and behavior is controlled by the preference (can remain on after loading a tournament, can warn you about overwriting results from previously-run tournaments, etc)
- Added feature to add all players in a tournament to a league, or remove all players in a tournament from a league
- All player dialogs now save their sorting configuration
- Added "offset" attribute to <round> layout token
- Added "showName" attribute to <prize> layout token
- Added <actionsummary> layout token
- Added <file> layout token
- Added "tooltip" attribute to <tdbutton> layout token
- Added setting to give fractional hits when more than one hitman is designated
- Added context menu options and hotkey actions to maximize/restore the Settings window
- Added preference for skipping the player movement dialog when Auto Seating players
- Added Rank column to the Undo Bust-Out dialog (assists in locating the last busted-out player when the wrong player is accidentally busted out)
- Added Status Updates feature which sends the current state of the tournament to a file or a URL at specified intervals
- Added rake data to receipts
- Added ability to ad-hoc fire events
- Updated League and Season dialogs and added ability to make a copy of an existing league
- Added sorting to Hotkeys tab
- Overhauled formula variables system
- Added formula variables: rebuysSecondsLeft, addonsSecondsLeft, defaultBuyinFee, defaultBuyinRake, defaultBuyinChips, defaultRebuyFee, defaultRebuyRake, defaultRebuyChips, defaultAddOnFee, defaultAddOnRake, defaultAddOnChips, guaranteedPot, preGuaranteedPot, guaranteeDiff, houseContribution, totalBuyinsAmount, totalBuyinsRake, totalBuyinsChips, totalRebuysAmount, totalRebuysRake, totalRebuysChips, totalAddOnsAmount, totalAddOnsRake, totalAddOnsChips
- Updated license dialog to display only once per day
- Added an option to sort listing by table/seat on Seating Chart screen
- Added BountyKept value to players for Stats Genie export
- Context menus can now be navigated using cursor and Enter keys
- Added preference to control which player fields are searched on Database tab and on player dialogs
- Added Game window screen transitions
- Added ability to "Stretch" screen background images
- Added an Event Action to launch an external program
- Added option to use an Estimated pot instead of the actual pot

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs Fixed:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- (2.6.b5): Salesperson selector gone from all transaction dialogs
- (2.6.b5): Mini-clock sometimes indicated the clock was paused during a countdown to a specific time (which cannot be paused)
- (2.6.b5): Error when "Paid in full" checkbox is clicked on Game Player Dialog
- (2.6.b5): Error when a layout from 2.5.12 or earlier was loaded with tables on the Seating Chart screen having background images
- (2.6.b5): Sorting tables on the Tables tab did not sort background images for the tables on the Seating Chart screen
- (2.6.b5): Seating Chart screen properties updates did not always trigger that the Layout should be saved before loading another or exiting the program
- (2.6.b5): Error on Adjust Rankings dialog when mouse cursor hovered over a certain part of the dialog
- (2.6.b4): Adding a player to the tournament using the Dashboard or hotkeys doesn't add the player to the unseated players list on the Tables tab (if the player isn't bought-in and seating of unpaid players is enabled)
- (2.6.b5): Editing a player who is not bought-in but seated will unseat the player
- (2.6.b5): Error on Stats tab if a player was a hitman and then removed from the tournament, or if a player busted out without a hitman
- Removing a player from the tournament via Players tab -> context menu -> "Remove <player> from tournament" does not produce a receipt
- (2.5.12): When choosing to rebuy directly after a bust-out, the busted player is not already checked (and should be)
- (2.5.12): Data Stores dialog sizing issue if resized manually
- (2.6.b5): "Hide rake on transaction dialogs" preference behavior is backwards, and this also can cause an error when pressing Enter to move from field to field
- (2.6.a1): Default Stats Profile doesn't allow formulas editors to open (needs to so formulas can be copied)
- (2.6.a1): Many layout tokens are refreshed too often, causing unwanted behavior
- (2.6.b5): Unchecking "Enabled" checkbox on Status Messages dialog does not disable the particular status message
- (2.6.b5): News checking can cause error
- (2.6.b5): Some Stats Profiles won't save sources
- (2.6.b5): When "Enable hotkeys on Settings tabs that do not have inputs" is enabled, keystrokes are prevented from reaching the tab (even those with no hotkeys), so things like "Enter" when a button is focused don't do anything
- (2.6.b3): Clock set button in layout will cause an error if pressed when no rounds schedule is configured
- (2.6.b5): Level duration not updated on Rounds tab when a round is edited
- (2.6.a1): Error when clicking "Create a new event from scratch" on the "New Event" dialog on Events tab
- (2.6.a1): Merge All on Players tab errors
- (2.6.a1): Dealer buttons do not appear on the Seating Chart screen
- (2.6.a1): Moving a table up on the Table Collapse Order Preference dialog could produce an error
- (2.6.?): Some values are double HTML encoded in Single Field view
- Background images can flash when using IE9 and Windows 7 - (2.6.a1): Opening Tokens dialog (from Layout tab or Rounds tab) can cause a cascading error where various dialogs and tabs produce an error when opened or viewed, until you exit and restart the application

So if you have bought a licence this february, will the 3.0 be free or do i have to pay again?

Did you test the beta out at all, mcfrojd, or did you stick to 2.5? If you kept with 2.5, then it is a possibility that people may need to pay to upgrade. However, if you tested the beta prior to the post Corey made, then you should be all set to go once 3.0 becomes available.

If you want to use version 3, you will have to purchase a version 3 license.  It will be at a discounted price, based on your purchase date for your version 2 license.

Corey, I've been one of the folks with you since the early days ... Version 1, when it was freeware, and since I Paypal-ed you some money for it you gave me a Version 2 license back in like '06. Am I part of the "pre Jan. 2010" crowd? I don't think I beta-ed 2.6.b5, but I know I did 2.6.b4.

If I must pay full key fee for 3.0, that's cool. I have an event on Nov. 12 and was going to use 2.5.12 before upgrading afterward for our first event in January. I can probably get by on version 2 next year, but I'd like to stay current, even if I have to take a couple of weeks to grasp the new version (like I did from 1 to 2).

Congrats on finally getting 3.0 out. I know TD is a labor of love for you. I don't know how you support this and keep a full-time job and be a family man too. How is your little one doing, btw?

The reason I had to insist on the beta testers using 2.6.b5 is that I actually planned ahead and implemented the "Store Code" feature, which essentially identifies you and when that particular version (2.6.b5) was installed.  Without it, anyone could claim to be a beta tester and I'd have no way to know for sure.  But that was before I realized I would have validation records that include software version, since the software validates the license online.  Thus, I should be able to tell, in most cases, if a registered license used any of the 2.6 beta versions, so I'll be extending the free license offer to those who've used any of the beta versions, as long as I can validate the usage.

Congrats on finally getting 3.0 out. I know TD is a labor of love for you. I don't know how you support this and keep a full-time job and be a family man too. How is your little one doing, btw?

Thanks.  I don't know how I do it, either, to be honest.  I've got a 3-year-old and an 18-month-old at this point.  They don't demand some of my time, they demand all of my time.  So I manage with very little sleep.  :)
