Beta Testing / Re: 3.2 beta 2

Oops.  Sorry Corey... these aging eyes are failing me.  Anyway, I did the fix that was documented by Microsoft.  Now when it launches I only get the grey background.  No splash screen or anything when launched.  I am on IE8 (Version 8.0.7600.16384) on windows 7.

Corey, when I start the beta I get the error "Interface not registered"  Line 793.

Corery, what about my error I reported earlier?  Do I need a licensed copy of TD 3 for the beta to work perhaps?

I am quite intrigued by this new feature as I have been wanting to better implement my realtime updates to the site.  Is there a way to show basic information on individual players as well?  Basically, looking for elimination statistics like when and the player ID of the person that eliminatated them?

Thanks Corey!  I have been holding out for the latest release waiting for this very feature.

Beta Testing / Realtime updates
« on: September 26, 2011, 04:12:04 PM »
I believe I have mentioned this before and I don't want to slow down your latest release but....

I currently have a windows script i run that on every bustout it exports the players on the players tab to a csv file.  That file is sent to my website and processed to provide realtime updates for tournament results.  Anyway, I have a two main problems with my setup.

First, I keep track of who eliminates who.  The software has no way of exporting the ID associated with the hitman.  (I have mentioned this in the past and I believe it is on your list).  I get around it by putting the ID in the nickname field which causes confusion with players that see that number and are confused by it.  I prefer the ID since I can tie it to the ID associated with the playerID on my site.

Second, the script is hit or miss depending on screen issues. I would LOVE a built in function that would allow exporting tournament info similar to the autosave.  I would prefer to just be able to export the entire tournament using one of the predefined export formats but the export tournament button is greyed out until the tournament has ended.

Thanks again!  Keep up the good work.  Being a parent myself I understand the extra demand it takes to manage work, family, and personal projects such as this.  Being a software guy myself I would be happy to volunteer some of my time to help out with debugging and code.  Not sure if you remember, I am the one that made some bounty changes to your code before it was locked down.

Beta Testing / Re: 2.6 beta 3

I have run a few sample tournaments without issue.  My only request would be when exporting players.  I would like to be able to export the ID of the hitman rather than just his name.  This would make it much easier for those of us tracking hits in our databases.  I mentioned this before but understand you are quite busy with these updates.  I was hoping adding this field would not be too difficult.  Thanks again for all your hard work on this new version!  Looks great!

I figured the event triggered export would be more difficult and didn't think it was a near term possibility but thought I would try.  Not sure how your rewrite would improve changes to the event triggering.

As far as the hitman id, that is a more important issue for me.  Ever since you added the player ID, which was a great addition since I can make that ID associate to the userid on my website, I have had a need for the player ID of the hitman as well when exporting players.

I upload the exported csv file to my site every time a player is eliminated,  Autohotkey scripts execute all of the steps necessary to create the csv then ftp to my site and execute a php script via plink to update the site with the 'realtime' results.  It all works great and thanks to your software it is possible.  I currently use the 'nickname' field to contain the player ID so I will have it when exporting the hitman.  I have the name format to show the nickname in parenthesis.  My main hindrance is that the ID shows on my TD screens since the name format is set up to show it.  Players can't seem to ignore it.

BTW, you would be amazed how many people play for the stats on the site as well as the game of poker itself.  Stats like knockouts, bubbles, familiar knockouts, our TOC points.  Thank you again for creating such a great piece of software that makes running my events as well as my site much easier. :)

I am hoping it is a minor change to your export dialog box.  Fingers crossed!

Great. I plan to run a simulation of my entire tournament this weekend to see how it performs.  I have some integration testing to do via my autohotkey scripts and player export to my website.  Here is my wish list for 2.6.

  • Export of hitman id when exporting players.
  • Have an event triggered player export. (I have an elaborate autohotkey script that does this for me after player elimination but it can be clunky)

Loaded the application once to have a look at it and then closed it down. Loaded it back up later and it tells me the 30 day evaluation has expired. The date and time on the laptop have not been changed.

Ditto here.  My install was on a win7 machine.  Note this is not the machine where I run my normal licensed copy of the software.

No issues so far.  I may actually risk trying this tomorrow at my live game.  Will need to run a good test before I do that.  One thing (and I am sure it is on your list but you wanted me to remind you when the beta came out), you still have a way to export out the player id but not the id of the hitman.  This is important for those of us that track hitmen via alternative means.

Thanks again!

Beta Testing / Any update on the status of the new release?

Just wondering if you have an idea of how soon we can start beta testing the next release of TD?  No pressure... I am in the software industry myself and prefer for the release date to be "when it's done".  Just interested in your feel...  I won't hold you to it. :)

I personally don't have a preference to either item.  I would just need to change my current layout file to the default file name.  All of my tournaments use the same layout therefore I would prefer not having to load a layout each time I load a prior tourney file to setup a new tournament.

It's likely to be in the next release.  There's not much you can do to push the release forward - there's just a lot of work to be done.  But, when I release it to beta testing, please do join in (just watch the Beta Testing forum), and if you don't see that feature, remind me.

I will definately be watching that forum!  Thanks again!
