Graphics software

What graphics editing software do you guys use to make you backgrounds and logos?  I am not really used any before so would need an easy one to use and a cheaper one too.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS and Illustrator 9; both of them are old copies.

cheaper than photoshop but just as hard to use... specially if you are like me and not too imaginative... but the good news is that there are lots of tutorials on the web, so you can easily learn some cool techniques...

I've just started using GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) a freeware program, which seems pretty good value to me.

Would be nice to know how this compares to other software.

Photshop CS ver 8 but it's very time-consuming to learn.  Once learned though , it's fun.

I'm attaching our layout to show what it is capable of doing.
