General Discussion / Re: would like some feedback on this, please
« on: January 08, 2009, 02:42:39 PM »
Thanks guys! Pretty much all family, some close friends and some new friends as well. We are kicking off season 2 this saturday the 10th, and afterwards i will put a couple pages back up with standings, career stats, etc. We generally average about 8-9 per tournament, but this year i think the average will be up around 11-12. one saturday a month, 2 games 3 hrs max with 30 minutes in between. If there's one thing i do more than anything when i get a thought in my head about the league, i put it in email form to all players and get their feedback and decide using that as a guide. I think I send out about 10+ emails a month! It's fun for bragging rights, talking (friendly) trash, etc. there are 8 players (including me of course) who practically never miss a game, while others show up more often than not. with new players this season, i think it will be a really tight race for player of the year. Last year, my mother and i tied and her rock score (see Overall Score) was higher than mine, thus she won the player of the year. a month later, i was going through each tourney to see who busted the bounties ("bounty hunters") and in the 6th event i noticed that a bounty was not assigned for that game. turns out she was the bounty and i was the one who eliminated her, giving me 50 more points and breaking the tie. I didn't DARE tell anyone about this (except my wife and mother in law), there was enough controversy in trying to figure out a tiebreaker at the time. now those tiebreakers are in place.

Thanks again for the kind words about the website. Freewebs.com (though now i think it is just Webs.com) is really super easy to work with, since i am not familiar at all with buliding an actual website. i would recommend it to everyone. Be sure to check for updates late on saturday the 10th or sunday the 11th!

Help Me / Re: Bonus Chips - not add-on or rebuy... Need help!
« on: January 08, 2009, 02:27:32 PM »
on the players tab when you select the player that is buying in, off to the right is the starting stack along with some other options. just re-enter the chip stack there. piece of cake!

General Discussion / Re: My Newly Built Table

Thats awesome dude.... now you just gotta incorporate this into it: http://videopokertable.net/

I was reading Popular Mechanics magazine (January 2009) while waiting on an oil change yesterday and came upon an article about this particular table. Made in Perth, Australia for $8,500. It was a small article, but I definitely enjoyed it! Check it out next time you are in the magazine aisle

Scotty, thanks again for the photoshop logo. I submitted it to this company that will put it on awards. the only problem now is they want it in a black and white form only. Can you or anyone help me out again on this one? I tried to convert it to B&W but it came out nowhere close to what they wanted! let me know i can also send the email reply from them specifying what they want. my email is FourAcesPoker@yahoo.com. thanks

General Discussion / Re: Buying the Software
« on: December 10, 2008, 09:12:56 PM »
It is definitely worth it! I have between 7 and 12 players each month. In between events I set up my layout, sound events, controls at the bottom of the main clock screen (so i can bust players out), and the TD does the rest.

Help Me / Bounties as set up in Prizes Tab
« on: December 04, 2008, 02:52:21 PM »
Is there a way to keep track of who has knocked out the most bounties if they are listed in the prizes tab? I have one bounty (the previous tournament winner) per event and i list them in the prizes tab and assign 50 points to the Hitman. Is there something somewhere in the program that lists how many bounties that a player has knocked out? Or does this only apply to bounty chips?

General Discussion / Re: Trophy Ideas
« on: November 24, 2008, 12:00:15 PM »
I use TrophyPartner.com for our awards. Next year (since social gambling is illegal in our area, and it's family and close friends anyway) we will have a $1.00 "buy-in" that will go to our "trophy fund", and we can get bigger and better awards for season 2. This past season I only spent $40.00 on 2 awards, but I wanted to spend more. Couldn't do it. So one of our memebrs came up with a buy-in for trophy fund idea and everyone loved it. When that time comes I am sure I will post pictures of those awards, but that's a long time away.

The way I understand it to work, "Overall score" and "Tournament score", when used in default settings (unchanged), basically formulates everything into a score that bases on average finishing position. That's probably why you see a change. If you have played only one tournament (which now I see on your post that you have, sorry), then this shouldn't change unless you have hits/rebuys/add-ons incorporated somehow. I use my overall, or "Rock" score as i call it, to determine the best consistent player. Also, it turns out, I found that it worked out as a tie-breaker for our Player of the Year (we use Points for determining that). 2 of us finished with the same number of events played and the exact same points total. The overall score broke the tie (one player had 4 wins, the other one had 2, and on paper, that person with 4 wins had a higher average finishing spot than the other player). So that's how I use it. Everyone, feel free to correct me if I am wrong, as I suspect I am not 100% sure this is exactly right.

I know I'm not the most creative person, but, how did you come up with that layout? Looks awesome!

sounds to me like the newer players are playing a little too tight. some of the free leagues i used to play in either played like they had money invested where they played tighter or just plain fast and loose, calling down hands like crazy. for the last 5 weeks, take some of the more promising players aside pre-tournament, and try to get a gauge on how they are playing. encourage these players by opening up their hand selection some and challenge these experienced players, put them to the test by going over the top on them when they raise. once you put your money in, the chips become just that...chips. they don't equal money, tell them. if you put a real monetary value on those chips (this is my money i'm betting), in their minds they are protecting their own money, when in fact that money is, in fact, gone. part of the game is taking chances. as far as bounties go, there was one league i played in where the player who either won the first hand at each table, or the points leader there at each table that particular night was the bounty. everyone started out with 4,000 in chips and a 1,500 chip bonus to whoever took out the bounty. the response to this was a pretty good one, especially when a bounty raised and 5 others called him or raised him back, trying for that 1500 chip bonus. sometimes they would feel like they were getting ganged-up on. it makes it more fun in my mind and can lead to some interesting hands, in my opinion.

pretty cool logos! i had about an hour or so yesterday to fiddle around with the logo you sent to me, and changed a couple things around to how i would make it more my own. changed the font and size on four aces, background color changed slightly, although i am a little ways off in getting a really good idea of what to actually use. I am hoping to get a good solid logo set by the first of the year, just in time for the kickoff of our 2nd season. I saved the original one you made, scotty, so i have something to go off of. hopefully this weekend i have a few hours or so to get down and serious with this program (the manual is huge!). once again thanks!

EDIT: ScottyK, here is the slighty modified version. it was a huge hit at our main event!

Help Me / Re: Auto scrolling new screens
« on: October 21, 2008, 10:40:59 AM »
Thanks for the quick reply, Corey. I didn't think there was any way to do that, and setting up multiple screens that go by every few seconds was my next idea. Is there a way as well to use those custom screens on the countdown to start screen/pre-tournament screen? how do i do that? list 3 or 4 custom one to work with countdown timer and then when the tournament starts, those go away and my main screen runs with the other built-in ones?

Help Me / Auto scrolling new screens
« on: October 21, 2008, 08:09:52 AM »
Hi guys, I am creating new screens for my main event game and posting season totals on them. problem is, i want to list the individual categories vertically and all the information won't fit on the screen and i have to shrink the font to where it will fit. problem with that is that no one can read them. (I have 20/13 vision (excellent) and can't read it either!). is there a way to auto-scroll a new screen that you create from scratch? or are the only auto-scrolled screens the rankings, movement, seating, and blinds screens? I have 2 and a half weeks to perfect it, so i am not in any rush (today that is). But any quick responses would be helpful so I am not in a rush come 2 weeks from now. Thanks guys

Thanks Scotty, I saved it to my computer this morning before I headed out the door to work. I plan on getting to it when I get home! Really appreciate it!  :D Good luck with your tournaments!

I use bounties this way: I put a 50 point bounty on the head of the person who won the previous tournament. In the Prizes tab, I select bounty on player, and over on the right, set it to points and then enter in a little bit of info to denote it on the list of prizes. If the previous winner is not able to make it, then there is no bounty. if he/she shows up to the next one after that, I then have 2 bounties. the winner who did not make it and the one who won the last one. This way they cannot avoid the bounty on their head. What's more, if the person with the bounty attached to them happens to win, they get their own bounty points as well. For me, this works very easy for me and we don't have to worry about bounty chips. I use the points for buy-in (50 pts), points for playing formula (n-r+1)*50, 25 points for a hit, 25 additional points for 3rd, 50 additional for 2nd, and 100 additional for the winner. Also, the winner gets a 10% chip bonus the next time they play as well. I used to do a free entry and 5% for the first eliminated, but then we started to do free tournaments and I got away from the 1st eliminated (I found out social gambling in my state is illegal and they are cracking down on it. Word of mouth travels fast in my area and I have been visited once. Fortunately we play for free and anyone that shows up that I don't know doesn't play. Family and close friends and anyone that I used to play with in area leagues before those places stopped playing)
