Another formula question..
« on: April 02, 2007, 03:42:58 PM »
Hi-

I'm set up to give players points basedon # of entrants...i.e 20 man tourney, 10th place gets 10 points...(n-r, I think)

but we also use re-buys....how do I encorporate re-buys into the point calculations?  so 20 man tourney with 2 player rebuys, I want 10th place to get 12 points...(or n to equal number of players + number of re-buys)

also, how do you score the re-buy people in this case?

thanks

Straight up points?

You just add number of rebuys to the formula. Your formula simply looks like this then  n - r + nr
The nr stands for number of rebuys. For your example it would look like this

20 - 10 + 2 = 12 points awarded to 10th place.

I'm not sure what you mean by how you score the re-buy people in this case. Normally it should be the same, however if you want to penalize or award specific points just for people who re-buy then put the points in to the dialogue box on the game tab, in the section for re-buys. The one you are looking for is the one that says "Points received for re-buy". Say you don't want the people who re-buy to get any points then you use the formula above and in the Points received for re-buy box you would put in -1. Then that person would not get his own rebuy points

with the n-r point scheme, realize that 1st place will get 19 points:

1st, 19.00
2nd, 18.00
3rd, 17.00
4th, 16.00
5th, 15.00
6th, 14.00
7th, 13.00
8th, 12.00
9th, 11.00
10th, 10.00
11th, 9.00
12th, 8.00
13th, 7.00
14th, 6.00
15th, 5.00
16th, 4.00
17th, 3.00
18th, 2.00
19th, 1.00
20th, 0.00

Other option is n-r+1:

1st, 20.00
2nd, 19.00
3rd, 18.00
4th, 17.00
5th, 16.00
6th, 15.00
7th, 14.00
8th, 13.00
9th, 12.00
10th, 11.00
11th, 10.00
12th, 9.00
13th, 8.00
14th, 7.00
15th, 6.00
16th, 5.00
17th, 4.00
18th, 3.00
19th, 2.00
20th, 1.00

I don't quite understand your rebuy thought.  It is more common to penalize people points wise for taking a rebuy rather than rewarding them with points (as Phaze is suggesting).

Then your formula would be n-r-nr (or n-r+1-nr) or as phase suggests you could use n-r (or n-r+1) and include the -1 points in the "points for rebuy" section of the game tab.

So, mention what points you want for all positions (1st - 20th) and also decide on what you want to do if only 15 guys show up (do you still want 10th place to get 10 points?  Then the equation changes).

I use n*n/r
that seems to work great for my crew.

The way I suggested would mean that the person would get everybody else's rebuy points, but not their own whereas what tand was suggesting with just putting in a single formula n-r+1-nr then everybody would lose points on rebuy's in their points.

For our group I have made it that rebuys give points, one to be exact, and also addons and hitman points which are 2 points each. My reasoning is that when people do rebuy they are contributing to a bigger pot, but they won't get excessive points for doing so. When I look at past tournaments, rarely do people who have gotten rebuys have gone on in the tournament to a high standing, so I'm not too concerned about the one point they do get for a rebuy
